La Salle shredded San Beda’s cloak of invincibility as it pounded out an 84-74 triumph to clinch the last Final Four berth in the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Guards Jarelan Tampus and Almond Vosotros and big men Yutien Andrada and Maui Villanueva did the most damage to Red Lions, scoring the back-breaking baskets down the stretch to complete their upset against the previously-unbeaten Lions.

The sleek-running Green Archers thus forged a semis duel with the Adamson Falcons, who earlier advanced after outplaying the sluggish Far Eastern U Tams, 75-57.

The DLSU-AdU showdown is set at 4 p.m. today following the other Last 4 encounter between defending champion Ateneo and University of Cebu at 2 p.m.

Not giving up an inch against the taller San Beda side, the Archers won the battle of the boards, 56-44, which they parlayed into 17 fastbreak points.

Can you share San Beda Red Lions game in torrent for download? Thank you!

Unfortunately, we were not able to record all Red Lions game. The best thing we can suggest is to go to Pisotv.com . You can watch the replay games of the whole NCAA 86th Season.

Would it be alright if you could post Alabang related news? Thanks so much. Go San Beda fight!!

Sure! In fact we have posted some Alabang news here especially about the Alabang Red Lions. [here's one of them]

UNDEFEATED NCAA CHAMPIONS San Beda College, hoping to become the first NCAA team to rule the Philippine Collegiate Champions League, tries to make a big stride towards that goal when it tangles with De La Salle University for a Final Four berth on Monday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Game time is 4 p.m. with the Red Lions expected to be led by American import Sudan Daniel, the reigning NCAA MVP. Clashing in the other Elite 8 match at 2 p.m. are Far Eastern University and Adamson University.

No NCAA team has ever won the championship since the inception of the league in 2003, with UAAP teams Ateneo, La Salle, FEU and University of the East dominating the field in different years.

Banking on the monster game of Daniel, San Beda earned a trip to the Elite 8 by mauling UE, 86-64.

Daniel tallied 20 points, 22 rebounds and three blocks in 24 minutes highlighted by 16 points in the third for the Red Lions, who scored the game’s first 11 points and led by 29 points (79-50) in the fourth quarter.

The NCAA champions and the reigning UAAP titlists take center stage when hostilities in the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League resume at the Arena in San Juan City Thursday.

Three-time reigning UAAP champion Ateneo and NCAA titlist San Beda take on separate foes.

The Lions take on the University of the East Warriors at 2 p.m. with the winners earning the right to face the La Salle Green Archers in the Elite 8.

Parading an intact lineup, the Red Lions are heavily favored over the Warriors. The Mendiola-based dribblers will display the core of the team that completed a rare sweep en route to winning the championship in the oldest collegiate league in the country.

Only one player from the recent championship squad won’t be returning this time — playmaker Borgie Hermida who already joined the PBA.

The proposed ban on foreign players competing in NCAA basketball has drawn strong opposition from reigning champion San Beda, which anchored its campaign on 6-foot-7 American center and league MVP Sudan Daniel.

San Beda rector-president Aloysius Ma. Maranan, OSB, noted the alleged surreptitious manner the proposal was presented in the last board meeting on Nov. 12.

The schools reportedly behind the proposal are San Sebastian, which lost to San Beda in the last championships via a sweep, Letran and St. Benilde.

Letran rector Fr. Tamerlave Lana made the proposal, saying foreign athletes are recruited for the sole purpose of winning titles.

But Maranan said the proposal was not in the agenda of the meeting last week and was only included as part of other matters.

Maranan, who has requested for a meeting to discuss the issue, pointed out that any amendments to existing rules could only be done during the annual meeting and that the votes of two thirds of all the members of the policy board are required.

San Beda coach Frankie Lim also reacted strongly to the proposal.

Daniel bagged the season and Finals MVP awards.

“Tell them to teach their players to compete,” Lim said. “Improve their programs and recruit better players.”

The following statements can be a major point of discussion:

  • One of the more disconcerting facets to this latest brouhaha is the timing of the call to ban foreign players. Whether they admit it or not, those masterminding this plot feel that the only way to bridge the gap between the top and middle to bottom teams is by driving foreigners away from the league. The stellar performance of American Sudan Daniel, they surely feel, wasn’t fair to the Red Lions’ victims.

  • If this wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction to San Beda’s dominance in Season 86, why didn’t we hear this proposal last year when Daniel was being crucified in forums, discussions over beer and even Bedan circles for his sub-par performance in last year’s title series with San Sebastian?

  • Should this latest proposal be approved, it will send a loud and clear message that visitors aren’t welcomed to showcase their athletic wares in this country of ours. This isn’t merely about taking San Beda’s or JRU’s side anymore. Far from it, in fact. It’s about our country, and what she really feels towards those who come from far away in an attempt to call her their own. full story

San Beda College

Office of the Rector-President

November 15, 2010

Rev. Fr. Anthony Morillo
NCAA Policy Board President

Dear Fr. Morillo:

This has reference to the motion to revise and/or amend existing policies of the NCAA Rules prohibiting the participation of foreign students to play in the basketball tournaments of the association.

The undersigned in behalf of San Beda College would like to manifest its strong and vigorous opposition to the motion proposed last November 12, 2010, considering that the process over which the motion was propounded and carried runs contrary to the NCAA Constitution and By-Laws, more particularly Section 7.1 which provides that any amendments to existing rules could only be done during the annual meeting and that the votes of 2/3 of all the members of the policy board is required in order to approve such revision and/or amendments.

For the record the proposition to prohibit foreign players was not specifically included in the agenda but was surreptitiously tackled as other matters. The members were not sufficiently informed ahead of the major revision as proposed hence could not effectively study the pros and cons of such.

In this regard, a meeting of the policy board is urgently requested to address this issue.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Aloysius Ma. A,. Maranan, OSB

San Beda College has strongly opposed a proposal to ban foreign players from playing in the NCAA saying the suggestion violated the league’s constitution where changes to existing rules must be made during the annual meeting.

Letran president Fr. Tamerlane R. Lana, O.P. had submitted the proposal during a board meeting held last November 12, where he made a call to disallow foreigners from playing in the NCAA, particularly in its basketball tournament, because of the perceived advantage of schools with “imports.”

San Beda’s opposition was highly expected since the school has won four of its last basketball titles with the help of foreigners, two of those players won MVP honors.

Fr. Aloysius Maranan, OSB, the NCAA Policy Board member of San Beda College, delivered the school’s protest in a letter addressed to Policy Board president Fr. Anthony Morillo of San Sebastian College.

The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles and the San Beda College (SBC) Red Lions are among the top teams favored to win in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) “Sweet 16,” which begins on Thursday.

“The experts predict that Ateneo will be there at the finals, most probably with San Beda, FEU (Far Eastern University) or probably even [De] La Salle,” said PCCL Chairman Rey Gamboa.

Ateneo and San Beda are the reigning champions in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), respectively.

They will mix it up in the Sweet 16 with other UAAP and NCAA teams like FEU, Jose Rizal University (JRU), Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), De La Salle University (DLSU), Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL), San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R), Adamson University (AdU), and University of the East (UE).

Making the Sweet 16 more interesting is the entry of 5 non-UAAP-NCAA teams.

University of Cebu, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CeSAFI) basketball champions, will be joined by runner-up University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos, University of Iloilo and Lyceum of the Philippines.

THE COUNTRY’S oldest collegiate basketball league seems bent on easing out the newest phenomenon to hit schools and universities.

According to a highly-placed source, both the NCAA Policy Board and Management Committee have begun deliberating on a proposal to ban foreign cagers from suiting up for the league’s member-schools. The source, who requested anonymity, explained that the issue was tackled in a meeting this week despite the absence of representatives from schools that have enlisted the services of foreign players.

The proposal, the source emphasized, aims to rid the league of foreign players effective 2011, or NCAA Season 87. If it is approved, the likes of Sudan Daniel of San Beda College and John Nchotu Njei and Joe Etame of Jose Rizal University will be barred from seeing action in the NCAA. Arellano University prospects Charles Mammie and Christopher Okte will also be affected by the potential ruling.

Received a text message saying that NCAA Policy Board and Mancom will ban foreigners. The said move was allegedly approved by the NCAA when JRU and SBC's representatives were absent. If this is true, SBC will comply with the new rules and, henceforth, just recruit 6'8 and 7'0 fil-foreigners.

This just came in from CHBA DUDE... text came from a VERY reliable source:

The winner of the Seniors UAAP-NCAA All-star game was the team that dominated the rebounding department and shot better from the field. The UAAP All-Stars outrebounded their supposedly taller NCAA counterparts 52-42, and also had a better field goal percentage, 47.5% as compared to the NCAA’s 41.7%. The final score was 90-76 in favor of the UAAP All-stars.

The NCAA All-Stars played without league MVP, Mythical Five member and Defensive Player of the Year, Sudan Daniel who was resting his injured groin. They were also coached by San Beda College Assistant Coach, Ed Cordero as Head Coach Frankie Lim was in Guangzhou, China for the 16th Asian Games as the Team Manager of the Smart Gilas National Developmental Team.

Meanwhile, the NCAA Juniors All-Stars prevailed over the UAAP Juniors All-Stars, 85-81. Baser Amer was awarded the player of the game honors as he scored 14 points. Kiefer Ravena led the UAAP Juniors All-Stars with 30 points. full story

The Commission on Higher Education has decided to close down six law schools across the country because not one of their graduates passed the bar exams in the last 10 years, CHEd chairman Emmanuel Angeles said on Wednesday.

The Top 20 schools should serve as model to other law schools in terms of producing successful first-time takers of the Bar Exams, minimizing wastage and frustration in graduates,” Angeles said. "These top law schools to name a few are Ateneo de Manila University, San Beda College and University of the Philippines"
