Defending men’s division swimming champion San Beda College Sea Lions dominated the Philippine Sports Commission-University Games, winning 16 of the 20 events contested for its sixth straight title.

San Beda even made a strong run for the women’s division crown but fell short by a gold medal for the honor, yielding to defending champion University of the Philippines-Diliman, which won eight golds.

PSC Commissioner Jose Luis Gomez awarded the medals to the winners in the swimming event at the Villareal Stadium’s pool.

Rizal Technological University, meanwhile, took its second gold medal, beating College of Southern Philippines, 2-0, in the championship game between two unbeaten teams for the sepak takraw crown.

In athletics, it was De la Salle University’s turn to shine in the men’s division Wednesday afternoon as Patrick Unso struck for two golds in the 110m, hurdles and 400-m hurdles, while Andrew Wilson snared the gold in the high jump event, DLSU’s third.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University continued its domination in the women’s side, with Hanelyn Luquinto winning the 100-m dash, and Josie Malacad adding the 400-m run gold to her earlier victory in the 800m run. Dalyn Carmen ruled the 3000m and Aprilyn Laudencia took the gold in the high jump.

The first two quarterfinal games in men’s basketball saw West Negros University taking the first semifinal seat with an easy 77 - 51 victory over Ateneo de Zamboanga, while St. Francis of Assisi College continued its streak by beating a stubborn University of St. La Salle squad, 71-60.
