Garvo Lanete, the sweet-shooting guard from San Beda, won’t see action for the Sinag Pilipinas national team’s gold medal match against Thailand on Sunday.

Sinag coach Norman Black spoke about the possibility of losing Lanete, one of the most consistent outside shooters for the team, in the finals during the post game interview shortly after the Filipinos ripped the Malaysians, 103-70, in their semifinals encounter.

“He had a bad fall and there’s something wrong with his shoulder. I’m preparing for the fact that we’re going to miss him in the finals,” said Black. “It would affect our rotation and that means that I have to bring down Chris Ellis to the big guard spot to fill the void left by Garvo.”

Ellis, a 6-foot-4 athletic forward, plays for the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League. A tall player who can hit outside jumpers and run the breaks, he is likely to play dual role, reliving Chris Tiu and Ray Parks in the big guard spot with Lanete not seeing action.

The Philippines will face Thailand at 7 p.m. on Sunday with the Filipinos hoping to extend their dominance in SEA Games basketball.

The Pinoy cagers have defeated the Thais, 103-69, during their preliminary round match, but Black doesn’t want to take chances against their rivals with the gold medal at stake.

“We will come out prepared. Obviously, our objective here is to win the gold medal and we’re close to achieving that goal,” added Black.
