Personal Statement From Miss Olen Lim

We regret the unfortunate turn of events that occurred yesterday, 02 December 2011, during a NCAA volleyball game held at the San Beda. We refer to the scuffle that involved members of our senior basketball team and the San Sebastian volleyball team that has been reported in various social networking sites and mainstream media. We deeply regret that this incident caused minor injuries to those caught in the middle of the altercation, including a player of the San Sebastian Women’s Volleyball Team.

My family strongly condemns racial discrimination, and all words and deeds that fuel it. I know San Beda College respects this as well and It is saddening that such an incident that led to the mentioned scuffle occurred within our walls, within our grounds. San Beda as an institution, provides valuable education, and a home away from home to these foreign students. We the LIMS and the community represent their family away from home have the right to protect these children as they are our responsibility and we stand as their parents here. We protect their rights and interests in the same way that we protect their Filipino brethren.

Racial hate has no place in school, in sports and everywhere. I encourage other NCAA member schools to join in the stand against racial discrimination. I encourage everyone to stand for what is right. NO TO DISCRIMINATION. NO TO RACIAL SLURS. WE STAND NOT TO TAKE MORE ABUSE FROM ANYONE.
