FMC Match-Up: San Beda Versus AU

For NCAA fans, this will be a very interesting match-up.  The last time both San Beda College and Arellano University met during the Father Martin’s tournament, the result was a 61-59 win by the Chiefs.  Would you call it an upset?  The answer will be revealed when both collide this weekend.

Season 87 8th place finishers, the Arellano University, have a new look  Former FEU Tamaraws and San Beda Red Lions Head Coach, Koy Banal and former NU Bulldogs Head Coach, Eric Gonzales will parade the sidelines for the Chiefs. Both are capable bench tacticians, highly experienced and both knows how to win at a high collegiate level.

The Chiefs have also beefed-up their roster with more athleticism.  AJ Serjue, from Toronto, Canada, has given Arellano that open court presence that were scarce last year.  James Forrester, who tortured the Red Lions with 13-points in their last encounter will provide that extra size and strength.

Another intriguing addition is former JRU Light Bomber including the owner of that NCAA historical 82-point game performance against Mapua, Keith Agovida.  Considered by many as one of the marquee players to enter the collegiate level, is no longer an orphan.  The young Agovida has finally found his home and currently settling in Tepee-ville.

If Arellano would like to change their fortunes this Season 88, these players are just the weapons they need to compliment their existing veteran roster.  This particular game will be an acid test for the aspiring Chiefs.

The Red Lions however, have their Season 87 Redemption Team practically intact.  It’s no secret that San Beda is dangerous in the open floor especially with the addition of 6’8 Ola Adeogun in the middle and Californian, Julius Armon, the Red Lions once again have extended their depth despite those known setbacks during the off-season.
