Red Booters Crush Blazers In NCAA Football

Defending men’s champion San Beda College sustained its searing start in the first round, beating College of St. Benilde, 2-1 at the start of the second stage of the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association at the Philsports football field in Pasig. 

St. Benilde’s Justine Paul Caluga opened up scoring right in the 10th minute, but Red Lion Raffy Cabug immediately tied the match at 1-all in the 16TH. 

San Beda tightened its defense in the second half, with Christopher Pedimonte finally nailing the winning goal in the 64th minute. 

With the win, the Red Lions continued to keep a tight grip of the lead with 17 points behind a clean 5-0-0 (win-loss-draw) record. 

The Blazers, meanwhile, took their third loss against two wins and a draw for a total seven points. 

In the juniors side, defending champion CSB-La Salle Greenhills topped the Red Cubs, 3-1 at the start of the second round to stay in control. 

The Junior Blazers, the Red Cubs and the Baby Chiefs actually finished the first round with identical 18 points, but the first-round pennant went to CSB-LSGH due to a higher goal difference of 56. 

The Red Cubs are at second place with 35 goal difference, while the Baby Chiefs had 30. 

In the only other juniors match, Jumbel Guinabang led the Baby Chiefs to a 13-0 crushing of the Letran Squires.
