Red Lions Destroy Arellano, Grab Third FMC Title
NCAA Back-to-back champions San Beda Red Lions prevented an early 1st quarter surge by the Arellano University Chiefs to capture the 8th Father Martin’s Collegiate Open Cup plum, 89-66, at the Trinity University of Asia Gym in Quezon City.
After 4 deadlocks and 6 lead changes, the Red Lions took command of the ballgame with a 12-0 run in the middle of the 2nd quarter, 42-30, with Rome de la Rosa, Baser Amer and Julius Armon leading the way for San Beda.
After finishing the 1st half with a 46-35 lead, the Red Lions completely overwhelmed the Chiefs on the defensive end then raced to an 18-point lead to finish the 3rd quarter, 71-53, and never looked back.
Jake Pascual had 20-points for San Beda followed by Armon with 16-points, 15-points from Dela Rosa while Ola Adeogun had 14-points
Only 2 players from the Chiefs were in double figures. AJ had 11-points and James Forrester had 10-points for Arellano. Rocky Acidre and Keith Agovida had 9-points each followed by Nard Pinto with 8-points and Ralph Salcedo and Vergel Zulueta with 6-points apiece.
