Frankie Lim will remain as head coach of the San Beda Red Lions even if the National Collegiate Athletic Association pushes through with its decision to impose a two-year ban on him for his involvement in a fracas last Dec. 2.

San Beda College’s vice president for finance and team administrator Fr. Rafael Alaras said Thursday that Lim has given the school a great honor for steering the Red Lions to five titles in six finals appearances.

Fr. Alaras expressed the school’s sentiments during festivities held in celebration of San Beda’s successful bid to retain the overall championship in the NCAA.

“Frankie will still be there. He designed the basketball program, did the recruitment and the training. After all, it’s only in the NCAA where he is banned for two years,” said Alaras.

Alaras added that school officials will still discuss who among the team’s assistant coaches, Boni Garcia and JB Sison, and team manager Mike Advani, will handle the team as a coach during the coming 88 th season. Any of the three will handle the team in the NCAA.

The school will also formalize its plans to appeal the sanctions imposed on Lim, an assistant coach, two Fil-foreign recruits and 11 members of the team, who were involved in the incident.
