San Beda, NU Opens 2013 Filoil Cup

A new season of collegiate basketball gets underway when the seventh FilOil Flying V preseason tournament tips off on April 13, at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

The annual competition, which sees teams from both the UAAP and the NCAA clash in a warm-up to their respective league tournaments, will start with a match between the defending champions National University Bulldogs and the reigning NCAA titlists San Beda College Red Lions, following the opening ceremonies at 1pm.

After the first game will be a match between the current PCCL titlists, the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, and the De La Salle University Green Archers, while the last of the opening day triple-header sees the current UAAP champs Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles colliding against guest team Southwestern University Cobras,  

The single-elimination tournament sees the 18 participating seniors division squads divided into two groups of nine apiece.

Group A will have the Arellano Chiefs, Adamson University Soaring Falcons, FEU Tamaraws, JRU Heavy Bombers, University of Perpetual Help Altas, National University Bulldogs, San Beda College Red Lions, College of Saint Benilde Blazers, and the UP Fighting Maroons.

Group B on the other hand features the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, De La Salle University Green Archers, Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags, UE Red Warriors and the UST Growling Tigers.

Guest team Southwestern University Cobras, from Cebu's CESAFI league, is also part of Group B.

In addition, there will also be a juniors division and a women's division that will take place as well.
