San Beda Defeated Altas In Heart Pounding Game
Perpetual Help came back from 21 points down to force overtime but it was San Beda getting the last laugh as they took a 78-76 victory in the extra period in a crucial clash of NCAA Season 89 leaders Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions led 59-38 heading into the final period but the Altas erased it with a stunning 30-9 quarter after a contested three-pointer from Nosa Omorogbe dropped in the last two seconds of regulation.
But San Beda showed its championship poise in overtime, outscoring Perpetual 10-8 over the last five minutes to escape with the win.
San Beda improved to 12-2 for the season to stay on top of the heap while Perpetual missed out on the chance to take the lead and dropped down to 11-4 after losing for the first time in four games.
Baser Amer scored 21 points to lead San Beda while Arthur Dela Cruz added 16 and Rome Dela Rosa 12 for the league-leaders.
Reserve Kyle Pascual stepped up for San Beda, scoring the first four points of overtime. Perpetual’s Juneric Baloria hit a three-pointer to answer but Dela Rosa and Dela Cruz combined to give San Beda a 76-71 lead.

Omorogbe split from the line and Harold Arboleda scored on back-to-back drive to tie the game at 76 apiece but Dela Rosa found Dela Cruz for a short stab under the basket that gave the Red Lions the lead for good.
Perpetual had one more chance to tie or take the lead but Baloria missed a shot from the corner and time ran out on the Altas.
