San Beda Tops NCAA Table Tennis

San Beda College clinched their fifth straight men’ s title while their women’ s team snapped College of St. Benilde 8-year reign as the 89th NCAA table tennis tournament commenced at the Harrison Plaza Activity Center in Malate,Manila.

After losing the first round pennant to Letran Knights,the Red Paddlers swept the 4- team second round elimination which include a 3-0 drubbing of the Knights to forced a do- or- die finals.

Led by Season MVP Zoren Patrick Mendiola,the Red Paddlers of coach Kurt de Guzman who was also named coach of the year for the fifth straight year swept the Knights once more in the finals to capture the crown.

It was the San Beda's 8th overall title.

In the women’ s division,deposed champion Lady Blazers earlier forced a knockout finals after beating first round topnotcher Lady Red Paddlers,3-0 in the second round.

The Lady Blazers got the headstart in the finals after Kheith Lhynne Cruz defeated Season MVP Lyr Eden Leyva,10-12, 7-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8 in the first singles.

Beverly Paulma tied the match for San Beda with a 11-4, 11-8, 13-15, 11-13, 12-10 win against Jannine Dy in the second singles.

Doubles tandem of Samantha Marie Ingeniero and Kryslyn Manez gave a 2-1 lead for the Lady Red Paddlers upon trouncing Mazy Anne Terciano and Jonna Carmona, 3-11, 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 12-10 in the doubles.

But Cruz did not gave up easily as she forced a decider singles upon humbling Paulma, 11-3, 11-5, 12-10 in the third singles.
