Red Cubs Trample MIT, Near To 18-Game Sweep

The defending champion San Beda Red Cubs struck hard in the third quarter to put away the Mapua Red Robins, 73-55, and post their 16th straight victory in the junior division of the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament..

This moved them a two wins closer of an 18-game sweep of the elimination round, and an outright finals berth, and a thrice-to-beat advantage.

Adven Diputado led the Red Cubs again, this time hitting 14 points while Javee Mocon made 12, and their pair of Ranbill Tongco and Arvin Tolentino provided 10 points apiece.

Despite the loss, the Mapua Red Robins remained in contention for a semis berth with their 10-6 slate, and they are behind the third-running La Salle Greenhills Junior Blazers(11-4).

Mocon scored 11 points in the third period as he helped the Red Cubs shatter a 55-all at the end of third, and went on to grab an 18-point lead when the game ended.
