The Ateneo Blue Eagles prevailed over the last year’s runner-up, the San Sebastian Stags, 70-59, while the San Beda Red Lions turned back the Letran Knights, 77-65, last Sunday to formally earn semifinal berths in their respective divisions in the 11th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament.

The Blue Eagles have a 7-1 win-loss record when they ended their Group A campaign with an 11-point advantage at the St. Placid Gym of the San Beda College-Manila campus in Mendiola.

They joined the Lyceum Philippines University Pirates in the tournament’s next phase.

The Red Lions finished their Group B sortie tangled in a five-way tie for the top spot at 6-2 with the University of Perpetual Help Altas, the Enderun Titans, the National University Bulldogs and the La Salle Green Archers.

But they still made it to the semis with the Bulldogs on a better tiebreak record, according to commissioner Robert de la Rosa.

In the junior division, Hope Christian School, which swept their seven-game Group A stint, will clash with San Beda Red Cubs, while the National University Bullpups will meet the unbeaten Adamson Baby Falcons.

Semifinals action will be held this Sunday at the San Beda Gym.
