San Beda Takes Game 1 Of Both Seniors And Juniors Finals
The San Beda Red Lions pummeled the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights with a late fourth quarter onslaught, 80-68, to take game one of the NCAA Season 89 men's basketball finals, Monday, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The three-time defending champions trailed by six entering the final period, but balanced playmaking and a timely three-point barrage led to a 26-9 haymaker to unhorse the Knights in the first match of the best-of-three series.
Last season, with the same two teams as the protagonists, Letran took San Beda to three games, but the Red Lions managed to hang on for a third straight crown, their sixth in seven seasons. continue reading here
Meanwhile, the San Beda Red Cubs are just one victory away from nailing their fifth consecutive NCAA juniors championship after pulling away from the College of St. Benilde Greenies, 79-68, in Game 1 of the Season 89 juniors finals Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Red Cubs, who won all 18 games in the elimination round and qualified to the Finals with a thrice-to-beat advantage, led by as much as 17 points in the first half but had to hold off repeated rallies by the Greenies in second. continue reading here
