Fiery and sharp inside the court but a true gentleman off the court, San Beda forward Rome dela Rosa was the toast among collegiate stars yesterday as he was named the 2013 Model National Collegiate Player by the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the ELJ Building of ABS-CBN.

Dela Rosa was given the distinction by PCCL chairman Rey Gamboa and executive director Joe Lipa for his “exemplary conduct on and off the court, and for attaining collegiate education while playing competitively thus upholding the high standards of performance and sportsmanship.”

The son of former PBA cager Romy dela Rosa skippered San Beda to its fourth straight NCAA title on his final year that earned the school an outright berth in the PCCL Final Four.

The Red Lions, however, settled for fourth in the tournament.

Past winners include Ateneo’s Nonoy Baclao (2009), Kirk Long (2011) and Nico Salva (2012) and University of Cebu’s June Mar Fajardo (2010).
