Red Lions rip Stags to sweep NCAA 1st round

The San Beda-San Sebastian clash lived up to expectations of being a highly-physical game.

But unlike last year's championship series, it was the Red Lions who came out on top in their very first clash in the 86th NCAA basketball tournament.

Showing their might on both ends of the floor, the cagers from Mendiola came through with a masterful 88-76 win over the Stags to complete an eight-game sweep of the league's first round in front of a packed crowd at The Arena in San Juan CIty.

San Beda got solid contributions from 10 of the 11 players used by coach Frankie Lim to somehow avenge its stunning loss to the Stags in last season's title series.

Coach Frankie Lim, however, issued a stern warning to his team afterwards.
"You know, I told the boys that they should not be too happy because we did not do anything big unless we win the championship," said Lim. read more
