Red Lions still unbeaten
San Beda shrugged off a shaky start before stamping its class on St. Benilde, 89-70, to open its second round on a positive note yesterday in the 86th NCAA seniors basketball tourney at the Arena.
After sweeping the first round capped by an 88-76 mangling of San Sebastian last week, the Red Lions entered the court quite lethargic, allowing the Blazers to race ahead to an 11-point margin but picked up their game in the next three periods to go 9-0.
“We started soft. It’s really so hard to match the intensity of our game against San Sebastian and it showed in the first quarter. That’s not us. We couldn’t even match the intensity of Benilde in the first,” said SBC coach Frankie Lim, whose wards trailed the Blazers, 12-23. read more
