Saints gave SBCA Red Lions its 2nd upset in the NCAA South Final 4
The Saints pulled off a close 77-74 squeaker over more fancied elimination round powerhouse San Beda College-Alabang. The Red Lions, who led at the half, caved in during the critical junctures of the payoff period despite the return of sniper James Panaligan, who was suspended in Game 1 for a disqualifying foul he was meted in the game preceding the semifinal round. Perpetual Help Laguna, for its part, capitalized on numerous turnovers in the clutch to wrap up the series. Playmaker Merlin Custodio, a marked man in the first encounter, rattled in six of his 12 points in the fourth period, while Marc Arciaga hit a couple of perimeter baskets down the stretch to put away coach Aldrin Morante’s squad.
