La Salle shredded San Beda’s cloak of invincibility as it pounded out an 84-74 triumph to clinch the last Final Four berth in the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Guards Jarelan Tampus and Almond Vosotros and big men Yutien Andrada and Maui Villanueva did the most damage to Red Lions, scoring the back-breaking baskets down the stretch to complete their upset against the previously-unbeaten Lions.

The sleek-running Green Archers thus forged a semis duel with the Adamson Falcons, who earlier advanced after outplaying the sluggish Far Eastern U Tams, 75-57.

The DLSU-AdU showdown is set at 4 p.m. today following the other Last 4 encounter between defending champion Ateneo and University of Cebu at 2 p.m.

Not giving up an inch against the taller San Beda side, the Archers won the battle of the boards, 56-44, which they parlayed into 17 fastbreak points.

“We executed well and played good defense, especially against Sudan Daniel (12 points, six rebounds and eight blocks) and Garvo Lanete (six points),” said DLSU coach Dindo Pumaren.

Tampus, a rookie, fired 16 points, including five in a 16-1 assault that gave DLSU a 77-62 cushion going to the last 1:26, while skipper Simon Atkins and Vosotros added 14 and 13, respectively. Villanueva grabbed 11 rebounds and Andrada had four blocks to outplay Daniel.

SBC, which swept its way to the NCAA title, was led by Adler dela Rosa’s 20.
