Shades of xenophobia: Christian Soler's opinion regarding the NCAA banning of "imports"
From Inboundpass
The following statements can be a major point of discussion:
- One of the more disconcerting facets to this latest brouhaha is the timing of the call to ban foreign players. Whether they admit it or not, those masterminding this plot feel that the only way to bridge the gap between the top and middle to bottom teams is by driving foreigners away from the league. The stellar performance of American Sudan Daniel, they surely feel, wasn’t fair to the Red Lions’ victims.
- If this wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction to San Beda’s dominance in Season 86, why didn’t we hear this proposal last year when Daniel was being crucified in forums, discussions over beer and even Bedan circles for his sub-par performance in last year’s title series with San Sebastian?
- Should this latest proposal be approved, it will send a loud and clear message that visitors aren’t welcomed to showcase their athletic wares in this country of ours. This isn’t merely about taking San Beda’s or JRU’s side anymore. Far from it, in fact. It’s about our country, and what she really feels towards those who come from far away in an attempt to call her their own. full story
