The Red Lions created arguably the biggest separation between contender and pretenders since 1997, which was also the last time an NCAA school ran the table en route to the title. But if Ateneo’s more arduous path to the UAAP promised land was to be expected, the San Beda juggernaut caught a lot of people off-guard. 
It wasn’t the thought of San Beda retaking the crown from San Sebastian College-Recoletos that wowed even the most casual of fans, but the manner it did. In their 18-game sweep, coach Frankie Lim’s unit won by double-digits 16 times with an average winning margin of 20 points. 
Along the way, a few more degrees of separation were created, as the bottom five teams won just two games over the league’s top four squads (Arellano was the only bottom five squad to do so, actually, beating San Sebastian and Mapúa Institute of Technology).
