San Beda and EAC takes in UPHSD and CSB's F4 slot in NCAA Womens Volleyball
College of St. Benilde and University of Perpetual Help were disqualified in the 86th NCAA women's volleyball semifinals after some of their players were found to have played in other tournaments without the consent of league officials which is a violation under NCAA rules.
Fr. Vic Calvo of Letran, the tournament director, handed down the verdict yesterday, a day after the league received pertinent documents and photos showing two players from each squad playing in different leagues during the same time the eliminations were being played last month.
The disqualification of CSB and Perpetual gave Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Beda College free ride to the semis where they will meet Letran and defending champion San Sebastian in a single round robin format.
Calvo said CSB skipper Janel Lim and second libero Aryan Alexis Yap played in the Vikings volleyball tournament, a Filipino-Chinese league held at the World Citi Colleges, while Perpetual’s April Anne Sartin and Ronnerie Dela Cruz saw action in the Area 1 Homeowners Association of Forth State Subdivision in Parañaque last Dec. 18.
“Based on the pieces of evidence like pictures, score sheets and line up of the leagues, they (players) violated Rule No. 6.5.2,” said Fr. Calvo, who suspended the games until next week.
