NCAA Player Of The Week Goes To Bedan Zamboangueño
San Beda notched the top seed in the semifinals of the 87th NCAA men’s basketball tournament set on Monday, thanks to the hot hands of Zamboangueño standout Garvo Lanete.
The fifth year veteran guard finished with a game-high 27 points, including 11 in the final period as the Lions secured top spot at the end of the two-month eliminations on Friday against San Sebastian College.
On that game, Lanete nailed back-to-back treys in the last 75 seconds to lead the Lions past the Stags, 88-85.
"It was a tough game for us, but we had another big night from Garvo again," San Beda mentor Frankie Lim said of Lanete, who has been chosen the Accel/316 NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week.
Lanete also stood out last Wednesday when he fired a team-high 17 points in a 91-70 drubbing of the Stags that forced the playoff for the top spot.
It marked the second straight week that Lanete was chosen as player of the week, after his heroics in the convincing win over third-seed Letran last October 7.
Armed with a twice-to-beat bonus, the Lions only need to defeat Jose Rizal University once to book a trip to the best-of-three championship series for the sixth straight year.
San Beda currently holds 15 crowns, one shy of Letran’s 16.
