SBC Lady Spikers Strengthen Its Bid For Volley Semis
San Beda College turned back its foe yesterday to strengthen its bid for a spot in the semifinals in the National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament at the Lyceum Gym in Intramuros.
The Lady Spikers of Mendiola went through some anxious moments before prevailing in five sets, 25-23, 24-26, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8, over the Arellano Lady Chiefs.
The win had the Lady Spikers climbing into third on 4-2 win-loss card.
The Lady Chiefs put up a gallant fight against the Lady Spikers, sending the match into a fifth set, and were still in the fight at 4-4. But Janine Marciano soared for a kill and skipper Cherry Quizon served a winner for a 6-3 San Beda advantage.
From there, it was easy sailing for the Lady Spikers, with rookie Kim Dela Vega and Ces Molina joining the scoring fray to hand San Beda a comfortable 13-7 edge en route to the win.
“Magandang Christmas gift sa amin ito. Pinaka-morale booster sa amin ito bago matapos ang 2011,” said San Beda coach Ryan Jeorge Sucaldito.
