NCAA champion San Beda caught rival Letran on a second half slump and cruised to a 76-56 victory to complete an eight-game elimination round sweep in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup yesterday at The Arena in San Juan.
Second year guard Baser Amer and veteran Rome dela Rosa fueled a third quarter pullaway as the Red Lions turned a slim 34-29 lead with eight minutes left into a commanding 55-35 advantage.
The win was a momentum-builder heading into the Red Lions quarterfinals duel with College of Saint Benilde slated on Wednesday.
Amer came off the bench to register 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals while Dela Rosa had 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists for the Mendiola-based cagers.
Nigerian center Ola Adeogun scattered 11 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in just 18 minutes in San Beda's first game without Fil-Am Julius Armon who decided to leave the team and stay in the United States to focus on his bid to enter the PBA D-League.
