Twins Are Back In The Lion's Den?
Is this another prodigal son storyline yet to be revealed?
Former members of the San Beda College Red Lions, Anthony and David Semerad, have reportedly enrolled this school year with the same school that recruited them in 2009, but have yet to practice with the reigning back-to-back NCAA titlists, one highly reliable source said.
Several San Beda College students have also tweeted out seeing them at the Mendiola campus.
In their three years with the Red Lions, the brothers were part of a team that had one Finals appearance, a historical 18-0 season, and two back-to-back championships.
The Semerads left the team late in 2011 due to a falling out with the coaching staff, moving over to Katipunan to play for the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the UAAP.
Despite having to sit out two seasons before becoming eligible, the twins were actively practicing with the Blue Eagles, and participated in off-season tournaments such as the Father Martin's Summer Cup as part of Ateneo's Team B.
Their sudden decision to part ways with San Beda and subsequent appearance on a sports program on live TV to discuss their departure created mixed feelings among basketball fans from both collegiate leagues.
School authorities would not comment on the matter, saying that their status with the team is still uncertain. In any case though, the two would not be eligible for the upcoming Season 88, as transferees are required to sit out one season.
Text messages to San Beda head coach Ronnie Magsanoc asking for comment were not returned.
Anthony Semerad averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists over 15 games in NCAA Season 87, hitting a team-best 38.71 percent from beyond the arc. David Semerad on the other hand, normed 3.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists, but posted a season-best 15 points in their title-clinching game against San Sebastian in the Finals.
