San Beda Returns In The Hardcourt, Faces Mapua
Defending champion San Beda tries to catch up with pacesetters San Sebastian and Jose Rizal University when it meets Mapua today in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Their game is set at 6 p.m. before host Letran (3-3) and Lyceum (2-6) clash at 4 p.m.
The Red Lions are rejuvenated by a 12-day respite after their July 21 match pitting the Knights were postponed to Aug. 11 due to inclement weather. They last won over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals last July 19, 81-65, that improved their record to 4-1.
San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc and his stalwarts said they used the free break to get more practice saying complacency has no room in the competition.
“It’s a balanced tournament, and we have to keep ourselves improving if we really want to win every game,” said Magsanoc.
Also shooting for their third straight win, Magsanoc can count on Baser Amer, Rome Dela Rosa and Anjo Caram, who topscored for the squad in their last victory with a combined 43 points.
The Red Lions, however, are expected to encounter stiff competition against the Cardinals, who are looking to improve their 2-4 card.
Mapua is coming off a 94-88 loss to University of Perpetual Help a week ago.
