NCAA Sets Final 4 and Finals At Big Dome, MOA Arena
In the past years, the NCAA had been staging its semifinal games on their home turf – the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan – but they have bigger plans for Season 88′s final four games unfolding this Saturday.
With crucial matches expected to fill venues up to the rafters, the league organizers and this year’s host Letran decided to move semifinal games from the usual venue to the SMART-Araneta Colisuem in Cubao – a site normally reserved for the championship series.
Game One of the NCAA finals, meanwhile, will be played at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The moves are expected to attract more spectators to come out and watch the games live, especially with matches set to be played on weekend dates.
The San Beda Red Cubs open this Saturday’s semifinal games at noon armed with a twice-to-beat incentive and will take on the #4 team – the losing team in the playoff game Thursday between the Letran Squires and the CSB-LSGH Greenies – while the San Sebastian Staglets, also with a twice-to-beat bonus, will face the winners of the playoff.
In the seniors game at 4 p.m., the three-peat seeking San Beda Red Lions, with a twice-to-beat advantage, will take on the winners of JRU Heavy Bombers-Perpetual Help Altas playoff Thursday while the second-ranked San Sebastian Stags battle the Letran Knights, a team they haven not beaten this season.
The Stags will hold a similar twice-to-beat advantage but will be laying minus one key piece as Mexico, Pampanga product Ronald Pascual will be serving a one-game suspension due to a disqualifying foul slapped on him for throwing a closed fist in their second round game against San Beda.
