San Beda Alabang Bagged WNCAA Midgets Title
Centro Escolar University, host De La Salle Zobel and Rizal Technology retained their respective titles while San Beda College Alabang and Miriam College plucked two titles each at the close of the 43rd WNCAA’s first semester over the weekend (Oct. 13-14).
CEU remains senior basketball champion after beating RTU twice in a row, 79-38 and 78-48, with Charmaine Natural and Most Valuable Player Janine Pontejos pouring in a total of 42 and 27 points, respectively, in the back-to-back wins at the St. Scholastica College Manila gym.
DLSZ also kept its midgets title after a 55-36 triumph over Miriam in their winner-take-all finals duel. Jel Alliah Jajurie topscored for the champions with 15 markers. Miriam then unseated DLSZ in the juniors level via a sweep, 55-49 and 57-53.
San Beda placed third over Emilio Aguinaldo College, 56-48.
In volleyball, Miriam repeated as junior volleyball champions as it bested DLSZ anew–25-17, 25-19, 27-25 and 25-21, 25-11, 15-25, 30-28. San Beda is the new midgets champion after surviving DLSZ, 15-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-18, 24-26, 25-15.
CEU swept Miriam for its second seniors title, 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17, 25=17, 25-18, in the tournament supported by Goody, Mikasa, Molten, Sun Cellular, MJC Photography, network partner AKTV and radio partner Monster Radio RX 93.1.
Named MVPs were San Beda’s Ana Ysa Declaro (midgets), Miriam’s Nell Frances Saclot (juniors) and CEU’s Jely Mae Sto. Tomas.
Third place went to San Beda, a 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 winner over St. Scholastica and
RTU also claimed its third straight senior futsal crown with a 1-0 decision over Philippine Women’s University while San Beda took the midgets title after a 2-0 blanking of Miriam at the EAC gym in Manila. Last year’s winner DLSZ finished third in the juniors level while EAC also wound up third in the seniors category.
Up next for the country’s only tri-level league for women are badminton, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo in January 2013 and the cheerdance and cheerleading competition in March.
