SBC Ruled In Unigames Swimming
Eleven-time champion San Beda College Sea Lions retained its men’s swimming title, while University of the Philippines-Diliman regained the title it won in 2010 from defending champion SBC in the women’s divisions in the 17th Sandugo-UniGames at the University of St. La Salle pool here Friday.
The San Beda men’s team collected 15 gold medals; eight in the first day and seven in the second day to rule the event.
UP Diliman won only one gold medal as San Beda’s Wilfredo Sunglao was adjudged most bemedalled swimmer with seven gold medals, five of them in individual races.
Sunglao won the men’s 100m backstroke, 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, aside from being part of the 400m medley relay and 200m freestyle relay.
Andrei Lorenzo Manzo won for San Beda the men’s 100m and 200m breaststroke; Joselito Vinluan, Jr., in 400m and 200m individual medley; Lorenz Joshua Francisco in the 400m freestyle and Ruenpone Jugar in the men’s 200m butterfly.
The women’s squad managed to collect two gold medals through Lorelie Lora in 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
UP Diliman women’s squad garnered a total of 14 gold medals; eight in the first day and six on the final day.
Claire Adorna was the most bemedalled swimmer with six gold medals, four of them won individually.
Adorna won the 100m backstroke, 200m and 400m individual medley and 200m freestyle, aside from being part of the 400 medley relay and 200m freestyle relay.
Kristina Bartolome also won for UP Diliman in women’s 100 breaststrokes, Beatriz Grabador in 400m and 100m butterfly, Jodie De Leon in 200m breaststroke, Ariane Velasquez in 200m butterfly and Christine Hipol in 100, freestyle.
