San Beda proved why it is a cut above the rest in the NCAA anew as it captured its third straight seniors’ general championship over the weekend.

Gaining a headstart in the overall tally after producing sterling performances in first-semester sports, the Mendiola-based school continued its dominance in the second half of the school year to sustain its burgeoning dynasty in the country’s oldest collegiate league.

“It’s a satisfaction for San Beda. It proves our sports program has improved a lot,” San Beda management committee representative Mari Lacson said on Monday. “Normally, track and field ang nag-dedecide kasi mahina kami dun, pero even before that, settled na.”

The Red Lions, whose three seniors’ general titles still pale in comparison to to Mapua’s 21 championships, garnered a total of 538 points, 36 points ahead of closest pursuer College of St. Benilde, while San Sebastian tallied 423 points to finish a far third.

University of Perpetual Help (388), Arellano (381), Letran (368), Emilio Aguinaldo College (362), Lyceum (191), Jose Rizal University (137), and Mapua (133) rounded out the rankings.

The Red and White squad notched titles in men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s football, and men’s table tennis, while finishing third in tennis, and fourth in men’s volleyball and chess, respectively.

The runner-up Blazers, on the other hand, ruled men’s and women’s taekwondo, and finished second in chess, men’s swimming, and women’s swimming.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian, banking on a strong finishing kick in track and field, beat Letran for its fourth straight juniors’ title.
