NU Past San Beda In Filoil Opener
The National University Bulldogs once again relied on Bobby Ray Parks to open their FilOil campaign with a 73-71 overtime win over NCAA titlist San Beda Red Lions Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.
After nailing the game-tying triple that forced the contest to five more minutes of play, Parks scored the go-ahead basket in the extra period to help the Bulldogs escape past the Red Lions.
In a display of his all-around game, the reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player registered 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Eric Altamirano-mentored squad.
With San Beda up by only two points in the last 10.3 seconds of the game, Baser Amer split his charities from the stripe allowing NU for one more opportunity that saw Parks converting on a rainbow connection that sent the game to overtime.
After he knocked down the three-pointer, Parks pointed up his index finger to the arena's rafters in what seemed to be a gesture made in dedication to his late father, Bobby Parks Sr., who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer.
The younger Parks also wore the number 22 jersey as a tribute to his dad.
Foreign student recruit Alfred Aroga also made an impressive debut for National University coming up with a double-double effort of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
San Beda was paced by Rome dela Rosa and Ola Adeogun, who each had 14 points. While Art dela Cruz and Kyle Pascual contributed 13 and 12, respectively.
