Red Booters Stays On Top In NCAA Football; Dumps Lyceum

Defending champion San Beda College Red Booters whipped guest squad Lyceum of the Philippines, 3-1, to stay on top even as De La Salle-College of St. Benilde blanked University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 3-0, for its second victory against a single loss in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association football tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The Pirates actually scored the opening goal courtesy of Raffy Cabog in the 15th minute, but were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Jim Ashley Flores tied the match at 1-all with a goal in the 38th minute, while Neil Dorimon closed the half with another goal in the 45th for a 2-0 San Beda lead.

Jay Shaun Soberano secured the win with a closing goal in the 76th minutes for the Red Booters, who streaked to their fourth consecutive victory.

The Lyceum booters dropped to 1-3-0 (win-loss-draw).

The Blazers, meanwhile, drew two goals from Ralph Lauren Porteria (5th, 50th), and another goal from Roald Tamsi (64th) to crush the Altas and climb to solo third at 2-1-1 behind the Red Lions and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (3-1-0).


The Altas stayed at the bottom on five straight losses.

In the juniors’ side, the SBC Junior Red Booters blasted the Junior Pirates, 9-0, to grab solo lead on six wins, while defending champion CSB-LSGH Greenies ripped the Altalettes, 7-0, to stay at solo third with a 4-1-0 win-loss-draw mark, behind the second-running Arellano Chiefs (5-1-0).
