Twin Lions Have To Fight For Their Slots - CBF
Newly-appointed San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez is not guaranteeing spots for the Semerad twins in the Red Lions lineup this coming NCAA season.
“They have to earn their spots,” Fernandez told InterAKTV a day after he was named the new coach of San Beda, replacing Ronnie Magsanoc.
“I heard they came back already and I think they’re eligible to play next season. But I have to assess everything.”
The Semerad twins, Anthony and David, left the school in 2011 after playing three years, reportedly transferring to Ateneo with the hopes of playing in the UAAP.
But their plan did not push through, and the brothers returned to the Mendiola campus this school year, making them eligible to suit up for the Red Lions next season.
“They have to fight for their slots,” said Fernandez.
The Semerads left San Beda reportedly over conflict with the coaching staff, then headed by Frankie Lim. Anthony averaged 6.4 points and .27 rebounds in Season 87 while David normed 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds, and was a vital cog in their title-clinching game against San Sebastian in 2011 finals.
San Beda, winner of six of the last seven NCAA titles, will be losing Jake Pascual, Anjo Caram and Melo Lim in its next campaign, but Fernandez still likes his chances for a possible fourth straight crown for the school.
“I’ll be losing only three players then nariyan pa sina Baser Amer and Ola (Adeogun) so I think we’ll be okay,” said Fernandez.
“Kaya tinawagan ko na si Coach Jude Roque to assemble the team as soon as possible para makapag-prepare kami nang maaga.”
