San Beda Defuses Heavy Bombers
Defending champion San Beda pummeled Jose Rizal University, 65-41, to extend its winning run in NCAA Season 89 Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Big man Ola Adeogun registered 23 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks for the Red Lions, who won their fourth straight game to tighten its hold of the second spot in the standings.
San Beda dominated early, jumping out to a 19-7 lead before finishing the first period with a 19-11 edge.
The Red Lions then unleashed a 14-0 run to push their to 22, 33-11, midway through the second period which they ended with a 38-18 cushion.
But San Beda suffered a drought in the third quarter, struggling to execute after extending its lead to 24, 42-18, at the start of the period.
JRU then made an 11-0 rally to end the third quarter capped by a buzzer-beating triple by Paolo Pontejos to chop its deficit to 13, 42-29, heading into the final period.
The Heavy Bombers continued to inch closer, coming within 11, 46-35, with still over seven minutes left in the game.
However, the Red Lions found their rhythm, launching a 10-0 run to grab a comfortable 56-35 lead with over four minutes left which JRU couldn’t recover from.
San Beda improved to a 5-1 win-loss record to trail unbeaten Letran on top of the standings.
JRU saw the end of its two-game winning streak and dropped to fifth place with a 3-3 card.
