San Beda Takes Solo Lead, Trounce EAC

San Beda College took control of the second half to quell Emilio Aguinaldo College for a 71-64 win in the 89th NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Art de la Cruz had 16 points for the Red Lions, which also got double figures from three of their players.

Baser Amer scored 15 for San Beda, which claimed the top spot in the standings with a 10-2 win-loss slate. Ryusei Koga and Ola Adeogun combined for 25 points.

San Beda trailed by three points in the first half when the Generals erected a 33-31 halftime lead.

But the Red Lions established control in the third canto, blasting the Generals with a 58-46 lead. San Beda never looked back since.

Cedric Happi finished with 17 points for lead EAC, which dropped to 5-7.

The Red Lions’ next assignment will be against the CSB Blazers. The first time they met was last June 22 for the opening game of the season where San Beda edged the Blazers on an alleyoop play from Rome Dela Rosa to Art Dela Cruz in the paint for a one-point win.

As Fernandez says it, it’s a different scenario now.

“CSB came back from 0-5 and now they are nearly at fifth or sixth place. It will be a tough match. I know CSB will be ready for us. They’re really hot in the last few games. They just lost that game against Perpetual, but they came back and nearly won that game. We’ll be ready for CSB,” said Fernandez.
