When the game is on the line, expect a veteran to step up on his game.
Rome de la Rosa personified the time-tested saying once more when he led defending champion San Beda College to a back-to-back win which stirred the Red Lions on top of the ongoing second round of the 89th NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
The ACCEL-3XVI NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week supported by Gatorade, de la Rosa again connived with teammate Arthur de la Cruz to bail the Red Lions against the gritty University of Perpetual Help Altas, 78-76 in overtime.
Son of former PBA star Romy de la Rosa,Rome issued another suicidal pass to de la Cruz who converted the winning shot for the Red Lions.
He finished the game with 12 markers, five rebolunds, two assists and a steal.
Against San Sebastian College, de la Cruz returned the favor as he feed de la Rosa that gave San Beda a 69-68 cushion with 56 seconds remaining, enough for them to keep the lead and clinch the victory at 72-68.
“I can’t ask for more from him (Rome).He’s really playing well. All of them. And I’m very thankful that they have that trust in the coaching staff and in the system,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez of his ward who scored 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in that game against the Stags.
The 22-year old de la Rosa, a graduating marketing student attribuites his A-game in that twin victory which fortified their grip of the top spot with a 13-2 win-loss slate to his extra work in practice.
“I’ve been working hard. You’re not always gonna have a great season so I keep pushing.,” said de la Rosa.”This is a good timing going into the stretch of the season. “
De la Rosa outshone the likes of teammate Ola Adeogun, Letran’s Raymund Almazan, Lyceum’s Mark Frnaciscoand EAC’S Jolas Paguia.
