San Beda College dominated both the men’s and women’s taekwondo tournaments of the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Jose Rizal University Gym.

The Red Jins collected a total of 391 points to secure their sixth men’s title, the highest tae kwon do honor that the team won in the oldest collegiate league in the country. San Sebastian College finished second (225 points) while last season’s champion College of Saint Benilde (CSB) finished third (199.3 points) in the two-day event hosted by Letran College.

Besides the men’s title, San Beda also topped the women’s division with 323.57 points, dethroning the CSB Lady Blazers, who finished second with 299 points, followed by the Lady Stags with 239.24 points.

Lightweight Kevin Ngitngit, who gained the Most Valuable Player plum in the men’s division, led the Red Jins to victory. The other winners were Paul Guerrero (finweight), Devy Singson (flyweight) and Daniel Perez (welterweight).

Mary Anjelay Pelaez, the women’s MVP, spearheaded San Beda Lady Red Jins’s campaign along with flyweight Meryll Mercado and middleweight Gabrielle Hernandez.

The twin taekwondo victories by San Beda boosted their bid in retaining the league’s general championship. San Beda earlier won titles in men’s and women’s table tennis and men and women’s swimming tilts.
