Lady Red Spikers To Keep Semis Hope Alive, Battles Lady Generals
Emilio Aguinaldo College seeks to stave off early elimination against an injury-hit San Beda College side in a battle of slumping teams today in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The 12 noon clash is very crucial for the Lady Generals, who have now recorded three losses this season and must play their A-game versus the Lady Red Spikers to stay in the Final Four hunt.
EAC is trailing joint fourth placers San Beda and San Sebastian, both holding 5-2 records.
After leading most of the tournament, the Lady Red Spikers’ semifinals hopes are suddenly in limbo.
Despite a smashing 33-point performance by Janine Marciano, San Beda dropped its second straight game, a 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-27 loss to defending champion University of Perpetual Help System Dalta last Monday.
Marciano, who is now working double time with Ces Molina playing limited minutes due to injury, must draw enough support from Coline Malana and Mona Diolazo for the Lady Red Spikers to get back on track.
Debbie Dultra, who is now taking over from Robey Remigio who will sit out for the rest of the eliminations due to knee injury, should work hard on her setting for San Beda’s hitters to get their rhythm going.
The Lady Generals are coming off a 19-25, 23-25, 22-25 loss to the Lady Stags last Tuesday.
Charmille Belleza, Donna Mae Factor, Maricar Aguares and Arian Angustia will be the vital cogs for EAC, which is also mired on a two-game losing skid.
