San Beda eyeing for Ateneo HS MVP Kiefer Ravena?
Juniors stand out Kiefer Ravena hasn’t made up his mind about his college plans, inviting more teams, including reigning NCAA champion San Beda College to line up for his services.
A graduating high school student of Ateneo de Manila University, the 16-year-old cager said Monday night he’s not yet sure whether he’ll join the Norman Black-mentored Ateneo Blue Eagles in the next UAAP season, more than four months after powering the Blue Eaglets to a “three-peat.”
“Coach Norman (Black) hasn’t talked to me about it,” said Ravena in his short speech after receiving the UAAP Juniors Player of the Year award from the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps at the Gateway Suites in Quezon City.
San Beda coach Frankie Lim has joined the recruitment fray for the 5-11 Ravena, the son of former PBA star Bong, who averaged 20 points a game on 51 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists (second in the league) and 2.6 steals (third) in just 25 minutes of play in his final year with the Eaglets.
“Pag-hindi nila kinuha, I think we have to be aggressive. Maraming nag-hahabol sa kanya,” Lim said. “But I think coach Norman (Black) will pursue him. He will keep him in Ateneo. But If Ateneo can’t make him happy, nandito lang ako sa tabi.”
But Ateneo Athletics director Ricky Palou had earlier said he is confident Ravena will stay with Ateneo.
Aside from Ravena, Lim and Black were also feted by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps as the NCAA and UAAP Coach of the Year, while Baser Amer of San Beda high school the NCAA Junior Player of the Year.
Sudan Daniel of San Beda and RR Garcia of Far Eastern University led the Collegiate Mythical Five Awardees that also include Kirk Long, FEU’s Aldrech Ramos and San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva.
Ateneo’s Eric Salamat and SBC’s Borgie Hermida got the Super Senior Awards while Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe and San Beda’s Garvo Lanete the Pivotal Player awards.
