San Beda gets recognition from UAAP-NCAA Press Corps

The crème de la crème of the country’s collegiate basketball scene converge tonight for the Collegiate Basketball Awards with Ateneo’s Norman Black and San Beda College’s Frankie Lim leading the awardees to be honored by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps.
For steering his squads to the championships, Lim will be named the NCAA Coach of the Year, in the 7 p.m. awards night presented by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps and Smart.
Romel Adducul of the B-Meg Derby Ace, a cancer survivor, will deliver an inspirational message in the event to be held at the Topaz 1 of the Gateway Suites in Cubao, Quezon City.
Sudan Daniel of San Beda, the Most Valuable Players of the NCAA, heads the winners of the Collegiate Mythical Five, a distinction given to the five best players of the recent collegiate season.
Aside from Daniel, also in the elite team are Ateneo’s Kirk Long, FEU’s Aldrech Ramos & RR Garcia and San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva.
The semi-formal affair, supported by ACCEL, 316, FilOil, Terrilicious, Gatorade, San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sportswriters Association, will also honor Borgie Hermida of San Beda with Super Senior award which goes to the players who excelled in their final year of eligibility in the collegiate leagues.
San Beda’s Garvo Lanete will receive the Pivotal Player awards given to the players who made valuable contributions to their team’s championship run.
High school standout Baser Amer of San Beda will take the Junior Player of the Year plum after emerging as the top performer of the NCAA.
The press corps will also give out a posthumous citation to Abante photojournalist John Paulino and pay tribute to the late Cayetano “Tanny” Gonzales, a former UAAP and NCAA deputy commissioner, and web writer and photographer Quincy Reyes.
