San Beda To Get PSA Citation

From the Ateneo Blue Eagles team, San Beda Red Lions, Davis Cup squad, to the Philippine Patriots.

All four along with several others, are going to be the recipients of the special citation from the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) during the Coca-Cola Annual Awards Night on March 5 at the Manila Hotel.

Joining the Blue Eagles, Red Lions, the Davis Cuppers and the Patriots of Mikee Romero and Tony Boy Cojuangco in the list of 17 individual and group entities to be cited by the country’s oldest media organization are riders Kenneth San Andres and Marlon Stockinger, Grandmaster Ronald Salvador, golfers Artemio Murakami, Cyna Rodriguez and Mia Piccio, the Ateneo juniors basketball team, SMART Sports, ICTSI, the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA), the Milo Marathon and the Araw ng Kagitingan Ultra Marathon.

Together, they share center stage with the other awardees to be honored in the formal ceremony also presented by San Miguel Corp., the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Nihao Mineral Resources International Inc., Accel, Harbour Centre and ICTSI.

On top of the 2010 honor roll are Athletes of the Year recipients Francisco “Django” Bustamante (billiards) and the trio of Asian Games gold medal winners Rey Saludar (boxing), Biboy Rivera (bowling) and Dennis Orcollo (billiards).

Not to be outdone are Dan Palami and the Philippine men’s football team, both of which will be honored with the PSA Presidential Achievement Award and the Executive of the Year, respectively.

The national men’s poomsae team meanwhile, leads the roster of major awardees, while the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) is the hands down choice as National Sports Association of the Year.

The iconic Efren “Bata” Reyes and the esteemed former FIDE president Florencio Campomanes will be elevated to the PSA Hall of Fame, even as legendary basketball coach Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan and famed international boxing referee Carlos Padilla Jr. are to be awarded with the Lifetime Achievement honor.
