Red Booters Sweep Round 1 Football games

Last year's runner-up San Beda overpowered Perpetual Help, 14-0, to complete a five-game sweep of the elimination round in the 86th NCAA football competition at the San Beda field in Mendiola, Manila.

The win thus gave the Red Booters an unblemished 5-0-0 (win-loss-draw) record, which was equivalent to 15 points since a victory accounts for three points each. A draw is equivalent to a point and a loss nill.

The lopsided victory was a fitting follow up to the Mendiola-based booters' emphatic 2-0 triumph over defending champion St. Benilde at the University of Makati field last weekend in a sneak preview of this season's finale.

The Red Booters also somehow eased the pain and heartbreak of a stunning 0-1 defeat at the hands of the Blazers, who wound up at second place with 12 points on a 4-1-0 record, last year.

In juniors' action, San Beda trounced Perpetual Help, 3-0, while Arellano U smashed Mapua, 10-0, to enhance their respective campaigns.
