A Sweet Revenge for the Red Booters

Last year's losing finalist San Beda downed defending champion St. Benilde, 2-0, to clinch a share of the lead with its recent victim in their title showdown in the 86th NCAA football competition at the University of Makati field over the weekend.

After blowing five opportunities in the second half, striker Roy Lanting unleashed a breakthrough goal on the 63rd minute before Francis Sumudivilla came out of nowhere by uncorking one for himself from near midcourt exactly 20 minutes later as the Lions gained the import finals incentive.

The Lions, who bucked the absence of the red-carded ace striker David Fornea late in the first half, thus drew with the Blazers on 12 points apiece but the former could surge to the top if they could beat the unpredictable Perpetual Help Altas in their last assignment in the single-round elimination.

San Beda also foiled St. Benilde's sweep bid as the latter fell to its first setback after going four straight matches without a loss.

Now its the Lions chance to accomplish what the Blazers failed to do.

It was also sweet revenge for the Mendiola- based booters, who lost the crown to CSB after dropping a heartbreaking 0-1 decision to the latter in last year's finale.

Here's the Senoirs Football standings: (Win-Draw-Loss)

San Beda w-4 d-0 L-0
CSB w-4 d-0 L-1
AU w-1 d-1 L-2
EAC w-1 d-1 L-2
MIT w-1 d-0 L-3
UPHSD w-1 d-0 L-3
