San Beda-Alabang Secures Semis Slot In WNCAA

Four unbeaten seniors teams secured semifinals slots while De La Salle Zobel, La Salle College Antipolo and San Beda College Alabang strengthened their Final Four chances in the 42nd WNCAA basketball and volleyball tournament over the weekend.

Centro Escolar University routed Philippine Women's University, 107-48, and Emilio Aguinaldo College thumped Miriam College, 61-43, to zoom to their fifth wins in as many starts at the St. Scholastica gym on Sept. 4, Sunday. CEU and EAC also grabbed the first two semifinal berths.

University of Asia and the Pacific fortified their hold on second place after beating St. Scholastica's College, 69-53, for a 3-1 slate.

In volleyball at the RTU gym also on Sunday, host Rizal Technological University downed CEU, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, while San Beda overcame PWU, 25-14, 26-24, 28-26, 23-25, 15-12, to likewise snatch semifinal seats with their fifth consecutive victories.

Miriam occupies solo second at 4-1 as it trounced EAC, 25-15, 25-12, 25-13.

LSCA, unbeaten in three matches, paces junior basketball, its latest win recorded at the expense of Angelicum College, 71-52, on Sept. 3, Saturday. Miriam tied idle St. Paul College Pasig in second spot at 2-0 with a 55-22 dumping of Poveda in the league being supported by Mikasa, Molten, Goody, MJC Press and AGR Xperts Corporation,

Last year's junior volleyball champion St. Scholastica defeated Poveda, 25-9, 25-7, 25-20, to share the Group A lead at 2-0 with Angelicum, San Beda is on top of Group B at 3-0 after overwhelming St. Paul, 25-16, 26-24, 25-17.

DLSZ continued to pace the midgets division where it is defending champion in both basketball and volleyball. The Alabang-based squad totes a 2-0 mark in basketball, the same record of Miriam which won via walkover against St. Paul. In volleyball, DLSZ has yet to lose in five games, beating Poveda for its fifth win, 25-11, 25-14.
