San Beda Still Unbeaten, Maul Altas
Nigerian Ola Adeogun left early in the third quarter trying to catch a flight for a training trip with the whole San Beda team to Las Vegas, Nevada.
That's all San Beda needed from the 6-6 Adeogun, who played minimal minutes but made significant contributions enough to carry the Lions past the listless Perpetual Help Altas, 74-55, to remain unscathed in the 2012 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at The Arena in San Juan City today.
Adeogun, who is hoping to get his one-year ban as a spectactor lifted if he passes the eligibility screening committee next month, was bullish with 10 points and the same number of rebounds to help lift the Lions, who were already assured of a seat in the quarterfinals, to their seventh straight win.
"He (Ola) had to leave early to catch up a flight to the US, they're scheduled to fly tonight and I will be joining them the next day," said San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc.
Adeogun's effort complimented that of a strong effort put up by Julius Armon, another player seeking to get his playing papers approved this year who had 20 points, five boards and four assists.
Magsanoc, who took over a month and two days ago, said they're slowly but surely improving to the form he wants.
"Defensively we are getting better, offensively, we will try to get better," he said.
The Altas were led by Earl Thompson but just didn't have enough firepower to match up with the Lions and fell to their third straight defeat.
Perpetual, which will be coached by Aric del Rosario, who steered Santo Tomas to a UAAP four-peat feat in the 90s, in the coming NCAA season this June, was coming into this match losing by just an average margin of three points in their first two assignments against UST and Ateneo, the defending champion here and in the UAAP.
The Altas had a rude awakening at the hands of the Red Lions on this one.
