San Beda aims to cement its hold of the top spot when they battle bitter rival Colegie De San Juan De Letran on Saturday in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

San Beda is looking at improving its 9-2 mark to widen its gap against its closest pursuer in San Sebastian (9-3).

San Beda demolished the Louie Alas-mentored Letran squad, 65-43, in the first round but Ronnie Magsanoc, the rookie coach of the Mendiola-based school, is not going to take easy.

With the return of Raymund Almazan, the Knights have rediscovered their winning form, beating Mapua (72-60) and University of Perpetual Help (62-57) to improve their record to 6-5.

"We'll be ready for Almazan. We cannot take him for granted," said Magsanoc. "He's a game-changer. But we have Ola Adeogun, and with Ola around, I think we'll be more competitive."

Aside from the Almazan-Adeogun showdown, another interesting subplot is the battle between point-guards Baser Amer and Kevin Alas

Amer tallied 27 assists in San Beda’s last two games, while Alas is Letran’s leading scorer with an average of 18.2 points a game.
