Alabang Lady Spikers Enters WNCAA Quarterfinals

Rizal Technological University, Miriam College, Centro Escolar University and host De La Salle Zobel completed their elimination round assignments unbeaten to make the quarterfinals of the 43d WNCAA tournament over the weekend (Sept. 8-9).

RTU downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 65-41, to sweep all its four matches in Senior A at its homecourt in Mandaluyong on Sunday, Sept. 9.  EAC and St. Scholastica’s College will join RTU in the quarterfinals.  In Senior B, defending champion CEU dumped Miriam, 73-25, for a similar 4-0 slate and towed Philippine Women’s University and San Beda College-Alabang to the next round.

University of Asia and the Pacific will meet Assumption College while Miriam will tangle with La Consolacion College Manila with the winners grabbing the two remaining Last Eight berths this weekend.

In the volleyball tournament at the St. Scholastica Manila gym, Miriam completed a 4-0 sweep in Senior B after dominating EAC, 25-7, 25-4, 25-16, while San Beda-Alabang plucked the No. 2 slot with a 25-14, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23 triumph over PWU which ended up in third spot.

In Senior A, CEU wound up No. 1 with a 4-0 record while St. Scholastica ended up No. 2 slot after a 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 victory over La Consolacion.  Defending champion RTU will take the No. 3 slot in the tournament being supported by Goody, Mikasa, Molten, MJC Photography, network partner AKTV and radio partner Monster Radio RX 93.1.

The other two quarterfinal slots will go the winners of the UA&P versus EAC and La Consolacion versus Assumption duels also this coming weekend.

DLSZ, the defending champion, likewise swept the five-game Junior B group in basketball, capped by a 64-11 domination of PWU on Saturday, Sept. 8.  Its midgets team also finished the elimination round unbeaten and earned a twice-to-beat edge against Miriam for the championship.  Miriam holds sway in Junior A at 4-0 and will gun for a sweep when it takes on St. Stephen’s High School on Saturday, Sept. 15.

DLSZ extended its dominance in junior volleyball, finishing on top of Junior B at 5-0.  Miriam and St. Paul College Pasig will join the Alabang-based squad in the quarterfinals.  San Beda-Alabang has one foot in the next round after a 25-15, 26-16, 25-18 triumph against Assumption moved it two games away from a Junior A sweep.  The midgets Reds Lion team also paces the midgets division, a 25-16, 25-15 decision over DLSZ handing the squad its fifth victory in as many starts.
