San Beda Eyes 14th Win, Battles Mapua
The NCAA will bring Season 88 to Subic, Zambales this Tuesday when the Mapua Cardinals fight for survival as they face the defending champion San Beda Red Lions in the curtain-raiser at 4 p.m.
This is the second time this season that the NCAA took the action outside of Metro Manila to bring the league closer to the fans in the provinces. The first was last July 25 at Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
San Beda, which already clinched one of the two twice-to-beat bonuses for the semifinal round, is occupying the top spot with a 13-2 record. The Cardinals, who are at the seventh spot with a 6-9 record are attempting to keep their hopes alive for a berth in the next round.
Mapua is coming off a 74-71 upset win over Perpetual with Jonathan Banal scoring 21 big points that towed the Cardinals to their sixth win.
San Beda clinched their outright semis berth and the twice-to-beat advantage after trampling the Arellano Chiefs last week.
“Iba-ibang teams, iba-ibang kind of defense ang binibigay. Good preparation for the next game and the following games,” said San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc.
