Defending champion San Beda extended its winning streak to eight games after scoring a 65-41 victory over Mapua on Tuesday as the Red Lions strengthened its hold of the top spot in the 88th NCAA basketball wars at the Subic Bay Freeport Gym.

Ola Adeogun led with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Red Lions, who completed a sweep of the Cardinals in their elimination meetings.

Baser Amer wound up with 10 markers, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Anjo Caram chalked up with 10 points as the dribblers of coach Ronnie Magsanoc hiked their tally to 14-2, two victories away from sweeping their second-round assignments.

Mapua dropped to its 10th defeat against six wins at seventh place and kissed its semifinal campaign goodbye.

An 18-4 run bridging the first and second quarters gave San Beda a 30-15 advantage, 4:15 remaining before the halftime break. The lead snowballed to 19 entering the second half.

The Red Lions intensified their assault in the last two quarters, leading by as many as 25 points, 53-28, following Baser Amer's layup in the last 7:32 of the game.

Action went a bit out of hand after Arthur dela Cruz and Yvan Ludovice of San Beda and Andrew Estrella of Mapua were assessed technical fouls late in the fourth frame.

Josan Nimes and Michael Parala, who average in double figures, were limited to only eight and six points, respectively, as no Cardinal scored in twin digits despite outrebounding the Red Lions, 56-45.

It also did not help that Mapua committed 16 turnovers against San Beda's nine, with the Red Lions converting it to 15 points.
